Minutes of a Meeting of the Committee held at 18 Sandbourne Road<\/strong><\/p>\n

at 2.00pm on Monday 24th<\/sup> January 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

Present:<\/strong> Ken Mantock (Chairman), <\/em>Jean Bird (Vice Chairman), Elaine Cooper, Sally McGrath (Membership<\/em> Secretary<\/em>), Beryl Parker (Social Secretary), <\/em>John Soane (Built Environment Officer, <\/em>Paul Newsome (Minutes Secretary) <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0Apologies:<\/strong> Hilda Brownlow, Phil Stanley-Watts, and James Weir (Heritage and Conservation Officer).\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n

  1. The minutes for the meeting held on 27th<\/sup> January were agreed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

     <\/p>\n

    1. Matters Arising from the Minutes:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
        \n
      • 1930s Postcards.\u00a0 <\/strong>The cards appearing on Alwyn Ladell\u2019s Flickr page are now linked to the Society\u2019s website.<\/li>\n
      • AGM on 6th<\/sup> April.<\/strong>\u00a0 James Weir had confirmed that he would speak after the business meeting \u2013 Sally would be issuing the calling letter in the next week,<\/li>\n
      • Committee List.<\/strong>\u00a0 Phil Stanley-Watts had been added to the website list.<\/li>\n
      • Cultural Strategy Meeting on 23rd<\/sup> March.<\/strong>\u00a0 John Soane would represent the Society.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

         <\/p>\n

        1. Built Environment. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
            \n
          • Wessex Fields.<\/strong> The Council would not be revoking the planning approval for Phase 2 roadworks but had confirmed that they would not be proceeding with them.<\/li>\n
          • Bayview Developments, Cambridge Road.<\/strong> John Soane noted that his ideas on design improvements had been shared with the developers.<\/li>\n
          • Winter Gardens. <\/strong>Another change was in the pipeline so John S would check this.<\/li>\n
          • 14-20A Belle Vue Road. <\/strong>Both appeals had been dismissed, the scheme will not proceed. A real success for community action and the Southbourne Heritage Forum. John S was attending the celebration on Thursday evening and Ken had given apologies due to work commitments.<\/li>\n
          • 23 Commercial Road (former M&S Store).<\/strong> Elaine and John S would attend the consultation being hosted by THAT Group at the Hilton Hotel on 28th<\/sup> February<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            1. Heritage and Conservation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                \n
              • Grand Cinema, Westbourne. <\/strong>The application to form a gym in the building had been refused<\/li>\n
              • Hicks Farm<\/strong> and Throop Mill. <\/strong>No news but the fields were flooded and Ellis and Partners had not returned Ken\u2019s phone call regarding the Mill.<\/li>\n
              • Westover Road Cinemas. <\/strong>The vacant cinemas was leading to vacant shops in Westover Road.<\/li>\n
              • Goats on the Overcliff.<\/strong> The Council had recently agreed that the secondary fences should be lowered so as to be less visually intrusive.<\/li>\n
              • East Cliff Lift and Pier Landing Stage.<\/strong> It was agreed that Ken should write to the Council conveying the Society\u2019s concern that repairs to the East Cliff Lift and the Pier landing stage were not going ahead.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  • 38 Florence Road. <\/strong>If the fenestration was improved the plans would be satisfactory, meanwhile they should be deferred.<\/li>\n
                  • 319 Belle Vue Road. <\/strong>The proposed building was not good enough for the area and should be refused.<\/li>\n
                  • 58 Harewood Avenue. <\/strong>The proposed building was out of keeping with its\u2019 surroundings and should be refused<\/li>\n
                  • 11-21 Commercial Road (formerly Bealesons). <\/strong>The Society supports the plans.<\/li>\n
                  • 63 Heaton Road. <\/strong>The site is not suitable for the proposed two small houses and should be refused.<\/li>\n
                  • 309-311 Charminster Road.<\/strong> Another very small and unsuitable site and the plan to build a small bungalow should be refused..<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    1. Planning Board Observations:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                      These meetings were now to held in Bournemouth Town Hall \u2013 future observers<\/p>\n

                      would be:<\/p>\n

                      12th<\/sup> March \u2013 Jean<\/p>\n

                      2nd<\/sup> April \u2013 Elaine<\/p>\n

                      May \u2013 John Soane<\/p>\n

                      June \u2013 John Barker<\/p>\n

                      July – Sally<\/p>\n

                      1. Communications Timetable. \u00a0<\/strong>The calling notice for the AGM on 6th<\/sup> April would be issued soon. The date for items to be included in the Summer Newsletter should be with Ken by the end of July.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                         <\/p>\n

                          \n
                        1. Civic Voice. <\/strong>The 2020 AGM would be in Blackpool on 1st<\/sup>\/2nd<\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                          \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

                            \n
                          1. Activities Officer.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                              \n
                            • Elstead Hotel.<\/strong> The facilities and support from staff at the Elstead Hotel were excellent but support for recent Soup and Sandwich talks had been poor (even after considerable chasing by Beryl).<\/li>\n
                            • Christmas Lunch. <\/strong>The Christmas Lunch 2020 would be cancelled as there was no-one prepared to make the necessary arrangements following Beryl giving notice that she would be stepping down as Activities Officer at the April AGM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                              \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

                              1. Membership Officer\u2019s Report. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                                  \n
                                • One new member. Ken noted that he and Debbie had updated the membership list based on information provided by Sally and Beryl . He had also prepared a letter to be sent out with the AGM calling notice advising members of the Society\u2019s GDPR policy and asking them to confirm telephone numbers and email contact details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                  1. Webmaster\u2019s Report.<\/strong> All up to date.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                      • Current Account. <\/strong>The balance in the current account was \u00a336,666.56<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                        1. Caroline Peach Meeting.\u00a0 <\/strong>The next meeting with Caroline Peach would be on<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                                          Wednesday 25th<\/sup> March and the agenda would be as decided at the January meeting\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 with the addition of the East Cliff Lift and the Pier landing stage<\/p>\n

                                          1. Any Other Business<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
                                              \n
                                            • Seats in the Square. <\/strong>Seats for the public which were removed for the Christmas market were ot being replaced, or replaced late.\u00a0 The Society would protest.<\/li>\n
                                            • Dorset Heritage Day. <\/strong>The Heritage Day would be on 28th<\/sup> November<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                                              \u00a0\u00a0 Next Meeting <\/strong>\u2013 Monday 23rd<\/sup> March at 18 Sandbourne Road.<\/p>\n
